Well done to Scouts from 1st Tavistock who were amongst teams from the area who recently set out to complete the “11 Tors”
The 1st Tavistock Team topped out on 15 tors and climbed over 800m and covered 23kms and ate their way through several large bags of Haribo over the course of the 7.5 hours.
The 11 Tors is an event organised by the Dartmoor Rescue Tavistock Section. Dartmoor Search & Rescue Team Tavistock rescues those who are lost, injured or distressed in the wilderness of Dartmoor. The team is entirely voluntary and funded solely by donations.
David Prestridge said “Some days as a Scout Leader can be a bit ‘meh’ and some can be simply awesome. Today was one of the latter; leading 6 of our oldest Scouts around the runners half marathon course as part of the Dartmoor Search & Rescue 11 Tors event”
David added “The Scouts were a total credit to our Group and Scouting as a whole. They showed real grit, pushed themselves hard, didn’t bat an eyelid at the climbs and were great company throughout.Huge thanks to Alison for being my wing man today – without volunteers there is no Scouting.”
Scouting in West Devon are seeking more volunteers so that we are still able to offer these kind of opportunities to young people, if you would like to volunteer with us then please contact
