Tavistock Scout Group

1st Tavistock Scout Group was formed in 1909 and has its own Scout Hut in the heart of Tavistock, Devon. We have one Squirrel Drey, one Beaver Colony, one Cub Pack and one Scout Troop with about 80 Young People spread across the four sections.

As we are located within walking distance of Dartmoor. Our ethos is that we should be an outdoors focussed group. We prepare our young people with Skills For Life to enable them to work towards the Ten Tors competitions and DofE expeditions as teenagers. That all starts with hiking skills, basic navigation by day and night, learning about nature as well as a wide range of other activities. We look at developing confidence, resilience and adaptability and always try to ‘Do Our Best’.

The Scout Association has a really great programme built around completing several Challenge Awards which lead to a Chief Scout’s Award in each section. You can find more programme information here on the Scouts website.

We, like every other Group in the country, rely on volunteers to deliver Scouting to our community and The Scout Association has an excellent adult training programme to facilitate this. You can learn new skills (practical, management and leadership) and help our young people experience truly memorable adventures and grow as individuals. Volunteering is #GoodForYou, enhances your CV and most importantly is FUN.
